Dear Colleagues and Friends
It is with great regret that we are announcing that City Families, Inc. will discontinue operations at the end of July. We will by no means stop advocating on behalf of New Yorker’s who want to share their home with a child from New York. But after working with many wonderful families and individuals we have to accept that time is not right yet to achieve our mission.
Cityfamilies.org will continue to be available after a brief overhaul and I will continue to post articles and information that could be helpful to pre-adoptive foster families. We will not be accepting new families for on going assistance but I still encourage you to contact me as I will always do my best to be helpful.
I will be launching a personal blog “A Matter Of No Urgency” in August. The blog will follow the steps my family took to achieve our dream of adopting a New York City child. It will also allow me to speak frankly and honestly about our own experience, what I have learned about the NYC child welfare system over the last three years and what I know others have gone through. My great desire is that it will help us continue the discussion surrounding adoption through foster care.
The initial blog post will be going to everyone who has shown interest in City Families. There will be an opt-out link should you not what to be notified of future postings.
We are grateful to every person who supported our work over the last three years. Be it financially or simply by allowing us to tell the story of New Yorkers who want to be the parents of New York’s children.
